St. Elmo’s Fire (Man In Motion) | John Parr

This song was #1 on the Billboard charts 25 years ago today—-and 25 years ago today, I was born.  I’m proud to share my birthday with Roald Dahl (!!!!), Fiona Apple, Mel Torme, Ben Savage.  But most of all (I lie… it’s a tie with Roald), I love that this was the day Tupac died/”died” (sorry Tupac and/or come out of hiding).

I do have to go to work today, but you better believe I’m blasting this song and singing along on repeat on the 10min drive there.

Burning up, don’t know just how far that I can go (just how far I go)
Soon be home, only just a few miles down the road
I can make it, I know I can
You broke the boy in me, but you won’t break the man

I can see a new horizon underneath the blazin’ sky
I’ll be where the eagle’s flying higher and higher
Gonna be your man in motion, all I need is a pair of wheels
Take me where my future’s lyin’, St. Elmo’s Fire

Just once in his life a man has his time
and my time is now, I’m coming alive

She & Him at The Ryman Auditorium, September 1st

September constantly proves to be one of the best months of the year.  Great events going on, great people born within the month (several friends’ birthdays plus Roald Dahl, Fiona Apple, Fred Savage and I share the same birthday ;).) and don’t forget about the start of autumn!

I cannot possibly think of any better way to open up the month than to see the ever lovely & impossibly adorable Zooey Deschanel and handsome & talented M. Ward.  They normally play music festivals, but I’m so happy I saw them in a venue instead.  Most of these are all from the end of the show when they closed out with a cover of “I Put A Spell On You” and Zooey belting it while stomping her feet a few times and pulling the mic away and toward her mouth.  Good looks and talent to boot…. too much, too good… and I was eating it all right up in that dark auditorium.

I would have loved to get closer for pictures, but I was lucky enough(slash-had a big enough bag + black cardigan) to sneak in my big camera.

Mona Lisa | Colour Revolt

One of my very favourite bands has just released a new album and it’s, as expected, AMAZING.  Go check out the whole thing and buy it if you like it.

If these Mississippi boys are traveling anywhere near you, go see them.  It’s a must.
